Growth isn’t something that happens overnight—it’s a series of intentional choices, hard truths, sacred pauses, and tools that meet you right where you are. Over the years, I’ve leaned into a handful of practices that not only supported my healing and expansion but also inspired the creation of the POP Collective. Here are six tools that changed my life:
1. Therapy: My Life Raft
There was a time I felt like I was drowning—overwhelmed, exhausted, disconnected from myself. Therapy became the life raft that kept me afloat. It gave me language, perspective, and space to unpack what I was carrying.
That’s why I’m so proud to have Dr. Julie Clockston, LCSW on the POP Collective coaching team, along with many other trauma-informed practitioners. We always encourage our members to explore therapy when needed. Healing isn’t linear, and no one should do it alone.
2. Coaching: My Lighthouse
If therapy was my liferaft, coaching became my lighthouse—guiding me back home to myself. Coaching gave me clarity, challenged my beliefs, and reignited my purpose.
The transformation I experienced through coaching led me to become a coach myself and ultimately build the Passion Over Perfection (POP) Collective—a space where other women could experience this same kind of expansion and reflection, in community.
3. Journaling: My Mirror
Journaling helped me form greater inner-standing—a word I love because understanding yourself is the first step to understanding others. It’s one of the simplest yet most powerful tools I’ve used. In fact, research from Cambridge University shows that journaling for just 15–20 minutes a day over four consecutive days can lead to significant improvements in mental and physical health¹.
It can be intimidating to start, which is why I love guided journals. I created my own Gratitude Journal & Daily Planner for those who want structure and intention.
Lately, I’ve been obsessed with the Maniscripting Journal. It’s helped me tap into my self-worth and manifest with more clarity. I loved it so much I grabbed the men’s version for my husband and brothers.
4. Books: My Mentors
Books have been my secret mentors. Titles like Laziness Does Not Exist challenged my internalized grind culture and reminded me that rest is not laziness—it’s resistance.

5. Mindful Media Consumption: My Boundary
COVID-19 changed me. Seeing bodies stacked in refrigerated trucks broke something open in me. I wanted to stay informed but not overwhelmed, so I became intentional about my media diet.
That meant turning away from fear-based narratives and seeking out nonpartisan, grounded reporting. Protecting your peace isn’t avoidance—it’s leadership.
6. Reevaluating My Circle: My Protection
"If you look at the people in your circle and you don't get inspired, then you don't have a circle. You have a cage."—Nipsey Hussle
That quote shook me. Who I allowed into my orbit mattered. I started paying attention to the energy around me—who challenged me, who supported me, and who drained me. Your environment either nourishes or stunts your growth. Choose wisely.
These tools didn’t just support my growth—they saved my life. They remind me daily that healing is sacred work, and that leading others starts with leading myself.
Inside the POP Collective, we use these exact tools—therapy-informed care, coaching, reflection, learning, discernment, and community—as a foundation for every woman’s leadership journey. If any of this resonated with you, I invite you to explore membership and join us on the path of real women, real growth, and real change.
